‘Bridging the Gap’ set into motion ‘Kasadya,’ project w/ AFP start operating, too CEBU CITY (Nov. 12, 2008) – December 2008 will be another month packed with activities as Junior Chamber International (JCI) Cebu-Mactan Channel enters the final phase of leadership transition. A dinner tonight 2009 President Emi Rose R. Parcon had with Omnilogy CEO April Dequito, a member of JCI Zugbuana, with leaders of JCI Cebu Sinulog sparked the “Bridging the Gap” series that will spark Christmas cheer to street children. Earlier in the afternoon, she visited the headquarters of AFP Central Command to discuss details of an upcoming special project, then oversaw the coordination meeting with project partners for the second edition this year of “Kasadya sa Plaza.” KASADYA Project Chair Mariecor B. Araneta (extreme left) briefs 2009 President Emi Rose R. Parcon (extreme right) on what transpired during the coordination meeting her project team just had in this conference room of the Office of Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael L. Rama with Cebu City Hall department heads and key persons the chapter will work with for the 2008 edition of "Kasadya sa Plaza" next month.
One Humanity “Bridging the Gap,” planned as a series that promotes “One Humanity” and will run until August next year, will kick off with a “STreet children ART Express Moments” (START’EM) where out-of-school children in two barangays will be gathered separately on Dec. 07 and 13 for a pre-Christmas treat where the kids will be made to express themselves through arts on canvass. Their artworks will be displayed in an exhibit on the side during a concert of Israeli pianist Matan Porat, “A Christmas Tribute,” on Dec. 19 tentatively at SM City North Wing where they will be special guests among personalities who will be invited formally with guaranteed seats within a cordoned area in front of the stage.
Catalysts. CEO April & President MM. The Minstrels Rhythm of Hope composed of 14 former street children from Paco, Manila will perform dances with classical and modern music as intermission during the 2-hour piano concierto. The initial run in the collaboration with Omnilogy that will bring in foreign classical artists “to bridge the gap across cultures, between cultures” until next year, will conclude with “A Christmas Moment” for selected orphans on Dec. 27. After initial survey and analysis, President MM brought in JCI Cebu Sinulog 2008 President Lani Ighot (middle, right) and successor Francis Icamen in her dinner meeting tonight here at Handuraw with Dequito and assistant, Chai Roncesvalles.
2006 Charter President Cerwin T. Eviota, CNT, NG, and 2007 President Angelo Daniel R. Parcon also joined the meeting. For Dec. 01 Earlier at 2PM, the 2009 President and her two predecessors met with Army Maj. Mesias (below), deputy chief for civil military operation (CMO) of AFP CENTCOM, at his office in Camp Lapulapu to discuss details of a project that will be implemented in time for the 7th Anniversary of AFP CENTCOM on Dec. 01. The special project will be finalized on Monday, Nov. 17, in another meeting with Lt. Col. Baring, the CMO chief who is expected to give a feedback on their review with Lt. Gen. Pedro Ike I. Inserto.
President MM first discussed the idea with Gen. Inserto and operations chief Lt. Col. Bienvenido Datuin during a courtesy visit last Oct. 22. Incoming VP Irish A. Rago and aspiring member Sandra Santiago, the project movers, are expected to join the incoming President during the final meeting before the special project will be implemented and announced. Coordination Also at 2PM today, the “Kasadya sa Plaza” (KSP) project committee led by JCI Mem. Mariecor B. Araneta, the project chair and incoming 2009 Secretary, met with department heads at Cebu City Hall and some key persons to fill in the details for the 9-day nightly public entertainment at Plaza Independencia from Dec. 16 to 24. LIFE Executive Director Lorelei “Mai-Mai” M. Dasmariñas, CNT, joined the meeting at the conference room of Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael L. Rama as project consultant with committee members, JCI Baby Jeffjohn Navarro and aspiring member Sandra Sabrina Santiago. The incoming and two past presidents joined them later after their meeting at Camp Lapulapu, and worked with the committee in plugging the remaining holes in the schedule. As these developments today came, 2008 President Jolex Yu Lim, CLT (right) commended his getting-on-the-job successor for the initiatives she took and the opportunities she welcomed for the Chapter.
"Let us spread the labor to our members," he said. "I'm glad they'll be doing things meaningful this Christmas. What a way indeed to create positive changes in the season of hope." Meanwhile, the 4th Induction Committee will meet tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 13, 6:30PM, at KIA Coffee Dream on Gorordo Ave. cor. Pedro Calomarde St. in Kamputhaw, this city. The induction and turnover ceremonies have been set on Dec. 11, which is JCI Day worldwide. 2009 National President JCI Sen. Fulbert C. Woo, CLT, NEVP Carlo Pontico C. Fortuna, PG, and NVP Donato Gonzalez have blocked their schedules for this occasion.
